Converting Вольты to Амперы

To convert напряжение to current, you need either power (ватты) or resistance (омы). This is because current depends on what load is connected to the напряжение source.

Using Мощность (Ватты)

I = P / V. A 1200W appliance on 120V draws: 1200 / 120 = 10 амперы.

Using Сопротивление (омы)

I = V / R (Ohm's Law). A 12Ω resistor on 120V draws: 120 / 12 = 10 амперы.

You need ватты or омы. With ватты: Амперы = Ватты ÷ Вольты. With омы (Ohm's Law): Амперы = Вольты ÷ омы. You cannot convert directly without one of these values.

It depends on the load connected. A 1200W heater at 120V = 10A. A 60W bulb = 0.5A. A 1500W space heater = 12.5A. Use: Амперы = Ватты ÷ 120.
