Subtract your date of birth from today's date, but handle the borrowing carefully. If today's day is smaller than your birth day, borrow days from the previous month. Same logic for months. Example: born 15 March 1990, today is 8 May 2026 — that's 36 years, 1 month, 23 days. A good calculator does this automatically and accounts for the actual days in each month. We use this in hospitals for paediatric dosing, vaccination schedules, and screening eligibility, where every month genuinely matters.

Multiply your age in years by 365.25 (the .25 accounts for leap years), then add the days from your last birthday until today. Or, much easier — let the calculator count the actual days between two dates. Someone aged 30 has lived roughly 10,957 days. I find patients enjoy seeing this number; it makes time feel real. We also use total days in newborn care, where age in hours and days drives feeding volumes, bilirubin charts, and developmental milestones — so the precision isn't just trivia, it's clinical.

A reliable age calculator uses real calendar logic, not a fixed 365 days per year, so leap years are handled correctly. The rule is straightforward: a year divisible by 4 is a leap year, except century years, which must also be divisible by 400. So 2000 was a leap year, 1900 was not, 2024 was. If you're born on 29 February, most calculators show your legal birthday as 28 Feb or 1 March in non-leap years — different countries handle that line differently for legal documents.

Take this year's date and subtract the birth year — that's the age you'll turn. To find days remaining until the birthday, count from today to your next birthday in the current or following year. If your birthday already passed this year, the calculator looks ahead to the next one. For example, born 20 December 1985, today 8 May 2026 — you'll turn 41 on 20 December 2026, which is 226 days away. Useful for planning, but also for school admission cutoffs and eligibility dates we deal with often.

Legal age is simply the completed years from date of birth to a reference date — usually today, or sometimes a specific date like an exam or election day. The trick is the reference date. For driving licence eligibility in India, you must have completed 18 years on the date of application, not just be in your 18th year. Calculators give the answer in years, months, days, but courts and government forms generally only care about completed years. Always check which date the rule uses — birthday, application day, or financial year end.

Chronological age is the calendar age — years, months, days since birth. Completed age means full years finished, ignoring extra months. So a person who is 25 years and 8 months old has a chronological age of 25 years 8 months but a completed age of 25. In Indian legal and exam contexts, completed age is what counts. In medicine we sometimes also use biological age — how old your body seems based on tests like blood pressure, HbA1c, and fitness markers — but that's a different concept entirely.
